Define costs so contribution margin and profit can be calculated.
Paid whether or not an order comes in: rent, salaries, software, retainers. Enter a monthly figure and divide an annual cost by twelve. These are what stand between contribution margin and real profit.
No fixed costs defined yet. Until they are here, this software can tell you whether your advertising paid for itself, but not whether the business made money.
Per-order costs that scale with sales: shipping, fulfilment, packaging, transaction fees, and COGS if it is not held in Shopify. Do not add VAT here. Net revenue already excludes it, so entering it as a cost subtracts it twice and understates every margin on the dashboard.
No variable costs defined yet. Without them CM3 counts only COGS and ad spend, so it reads better than the truth by whatever shipping and fees actually cost you.
